My battery is flat, can I connect my crafter to the mains? Thanks
@@TheKingy4 if you are asking can you connect the van to EHU to charge the vehicle battery, that depends on the converter who built it. Our van does not trickle charge the vehicle battery either from EHU or solar.
The madness of VW stealers clearly just looking for more money - we have a 2012 T5.1 2.0TDI Caravelle so effectively the same base engine configuration and the service schedule states 210,000kms (130,200 miles) with no age stipulation whatsoever. As it happens, I’m currently changing it myself (so that’s 12 years and in our case c. 115,000 miles), and apart from some evidence of stretching (the tensioner no longer points to the cutout where they are initially set), and a small amount of dust, the belt still appears to be in excellent condition. And the water pump is also perfect, although this will be replaced whilst the belt is off. If I was being super-cautious (and I generally am), I would suggest an 8 year interval, but even then I would consider it a bit excessive and there’s really nothing significantly different on the T6 that would support reducing the interval to the dealer recommendation. The auxiliary belt at 4 years, sure, but not the cambelt.
@@iandonkin6762 the joy of ‘VW Stealers’ I like that one. It is a basic logic of the fear factor isn’t it. The only thing I would say is that you would expect a works vehicle to live a much harder life. Most campers are going to be well cared for and maintained accordingly.
@@LiveforTravelI’d have to agree; the Crafter being the most extreme use case of this engine and they are the same super-high mileage interval.
I weighed our new van at 3470kg unloaded 🤣 full of diesel and adblue with basics on board with no water (full spec and every option including auto) so oops… plated up to 4250 now!
I’m sorry. I don’t recognise you. Don’t you have a van channel? 😂
@@LiveforTravel occasionally 😂
How do i tell if mine has ad blue
There will be an additional filler cap, which on mine is below the fuel filler.
How do you lock the sliding door in this situation. I have a Ducato 2010 with no manual key option on the sliding door
I don’t know sorry as we have no sliding door.
The caption said you made this 2 years ago. You've had the camper van 4 years already? Open All Hours?....yup, watched that series, too! Good tour!
Yes the video has been on the channel for 2 years. We have had it for 4.
Hi there, I’ve just watched your 2 videos on newbie mistakes and found them very helpful. Do you cover filling and draining the fresh water system as I was away for 3 days and when I arrived couldn’t get water in as it was coming out the overflow and controller was showing empty. I think I caused an airlock when draining it previously and not having the filler cap open. Thank you.
I have never had any air lock so unable to say. We cover the ‘frost protection valve’ at around 15 minutes into this video. ua-cam.com/video/bGWIsdS9Xdk/v-deo.htmlsi=pM5urk7ozfcQqG_Q Thanks for your feedback.
If you press the button to vent the tank when this idiot shows you to do it, it will puke sewage all over your bathroom. GLWT!
Thank you so much, I am about to buy my first moto home after 50 years of bicking. Your information was great THANK YOU 😊
Thanks. Appreciate the support. We wish you many happy travels in your new van. 😁
Go and build better yourself then. Oh oh oh I cannot. !!!!!!!
Oh Kenneth…
Can be very dangerus this 230 connector conversation as neutral and life can be false if you turn the plug by 180 degree
you should not jump start it can kill the computer costing thousands of dollars
The location is there for that. Interested to hear what you suggest to do in the event of a flat battery. I will contact Fiat Technical in Italy and ask as they were very helpful giving me support for the Adblue video.
Best Truma tutorial on UA-cam, thank you!
Thanks. Amazing feedback 😁
It's 5 years in Europe for cambelt. Transit is a wet belt, which appears to be having issues in Ecoboost engines.
Yes I think it needs the correct service intervals otherwise they can be a problem.
Milenco protectors don’t work with hard impacts. Mirror Guards are more expensive but far better in those situations.
Agree. Although some impacts, with or without guards, have removed mirrors by the arms.
@@LiveforTravel certainly. However, from experience I found that the Milenco is essentially a cosmetic add-on, and ineffective at preventing damage from significant impacts. I lost an entire Transit mirror with a Milenco ‘protector’, whereas the Mirror Guard on a Ducato withstood a severe impact from a courier van, with only scratches to show for it. At the end of the day, it boils down to how much you’re prepared to pay I guess.
I came here because I had a dead battery on my camping car on Fiat Ducato 2013. But when I lifted the hood at the spot where you have the earth point at 0:58 I just have a hole. So I jump started the battery itself. Is there another point where I could clamp the negative cable under the hood? Thanks a lot for your videos. They are very clear and well done and I learn a lot.
Most clean metal surfaces are usually fine for an Earth. Thanks for your support.
Just watched the video and I have to say what a professional video it was, Although I don’t have the same make of motorhome as yourselves I would agree whole heartedly in your comments about building up a relationship with the dealer you buy the motorhome home from. I purchased a new Autosleeper in 2017 from a local dealer because its reputation and not the dealer who offers me the best trade in price on my part ex It has paid dividends over the years. Enjoy your motorhome Terry
Thanks. Absolutely agree. We have found that warranty work on a Motorhome is not treated the same by dealers as a franchised car dealership. Which is quite unreal when you think of the cost of the vehicle. So a ‘very reputable’ dealer is worth much more to an owner than any discount. Thanks for your support.
Great information thanks , and great its come from the manufacturers technical dept 👍
Thanks. Yes an Italian lady who was extremely helpful.
Nicely informative video, thank you both.
Thanks for watching and your support.
Wife and I tried Lickpenney on you recommendation - she loved it!
Great. It is a beautiful site.
You speak like Ringo Starr... from The Beatles.
For Christ's sake, I've been doing mine without a clue that the pipe rotates, can't believe I could have avoided the times it's gone so wrong 😂😂
Can you plug in an electric car, to trickle charge on a granny charger that you would use at home (a 3 pin plug)
Most vehicle manufacturers limit the current drawn from a standard domestic 3 pin socket to 10A or less, which equates to a maximum of 2.3kW. Therefore, it depends on what the site uses and whether they restrict the use for charging an EV.
Thinking of buying my first motorhome and came across your videos which i find are excellent for a newbie like myself. Simple and plain English so even I can understand. One question worry i have is does the pull out step have an alarm on it if you forget to put it back in before you drive off?
Thanks. I don’t know. I believe there should also be a warning if you have not disconnected the EHU.
Does the chemical turn everything to liquid?
Not completely.
Hi, excellent and V useful vlog. Please advise whether you went for the standard or the longline Taylormade cover. Thanks
Thanks. We went for the long one that covers the vents.
Motorhome fridges dont have compressor fridges. A compressor fridge is the same as you have in a house. Yes expe sive but worth every penny.
“…a fully equipped kitchen with Thetford 141 litre compressor fridge.” Also checked on the Bailey website. www.leisurekingdom.co.uk/vehicle/new-bailey-alora-69-4s-2024-motorhome-00025829
Thanks Paul for your informative video. We were concerned about this so took our 2022/23 auto model to a weighbridge fully laden for a 2 month trip including 2 bikes, 1 adult and 100l of water as well as a full tank of diesel. We anticipated, given the information circulating, that we would be well over and have to jettison some things. However, we discovered we were only 3240kg giving us another 260kg to play with. Very relieved!! If you ever want to see our van you are welcome. We’re based near Edinburgh although currently touring in Scandinavia (underweight!)
That is great to hear. It does suggest either RT have simply got the numbers wrong or, as confirmed by their sales manager, correct on vehicles with the heavy chassis. Would love to review the later van. If only we were touring Scandinavia… not jealous at all 🤔🤦♂️😂👍
If it works for you, we could be passing Birmingham on our way home around the 9th July. It would be great to meet you. Cheers
@@garrymacdonald8613 wow. That is a great offer thank you. We are ‘hopefully’ in Germany early July but thank you for the kind offer.
I dont agree on many things, you said this video was for camper and too. Truma gas gauge.. just keep a full 3.9kg as back up, price of gas you need to use it all. Outer windscreen cover, no way. When it gets wet or iced up you have to out it away wet!! Ramps yes agree but not the 70mm ones, go for the 120mm, they are 50mm longer and way higher. You said cello tvs probably weren't great, they are made by ferguson so decent TV. As for rappers, the blue is way way better than the green, agreed. Just empty it at night. Dri king waters from your water tank is fine, why buy water!? You didn't mention fly spray? Food thermostat!!!!??? Why? Massive panset in a camper? Errr. Nooo. Anti slip plates?? Why?? No mention of carbon monoxide or fire alarm? Sod the 2kw heater, get a diesel heater, 10hrs per 1L of diesel.
Not a fan then… 😬
@LiveforTravel no pal. I like your videos. I just don't agree with certain things that's all.i have lived full-time off grid in my camper, and it's just my opinion buddy
@@matterhorn1975 opinions are always welcomed. My opinion, the amount of water on the inside of our van if we used internal covers would be more than on an external… after raining. With regards to what was ‘missed’ on this particular video… would you fancy taking a guess how many points there would be? If we filmed it, you understand someone would still say that we missed something.
Enjoyed the informative video and your dry sense of humour :-). Just retired, my wife and I are seriously considering buying a motor home. We recently sold our caravan to make the leap to a motorhome. Your video has eased my worried mind and confirmed this is a real option and there is a wealth of support out there to help us along the way. Thank you.
Thanks. I’m just an old Brummie 😁 So are you still looking for a Motorhome? There is such a large choice and different layouts. We would always say to buyers, look at lots, narrow your search down and then, if possible (and available) hire one before you buy. Happy travels.
How much would a motorhome of this size cost these days?
Depends on age, condition and mileage. New they are now £74k. 4 years old with low miles expect to pay over £50k.
So as far as electrics inside the motor home are concerned, can you run sockets of a large portable battery? And if so is there any you would recommend?
We can’t personally recommend one as we have not purchased one. Depends on your budget and power output needs but anything like a Jackery would offer AC socket/s.
Thank you, I'm only a new be to my Roller team This Video is the one I come back to many times Many thanks for sharing 💎
Fantastic. Thanks for watching and your support.
Thanks for this. Very informative and agree about changing oil. I do mine annually and think it is worth the money.
It is. Modern mileage intervals are too long in my opinion.
I always do my own using oversized Bosh filters and a dedicated diesel engine oil like Valvoline Profleet full synthetic oil - it's so much cheaper and I do it every spring regardless of miles - fuel and air filters every other year - coolant every 4 years
Good logic. Oil is the lifeblood of an engine.
Any major tips? Mine just clocked 50,000kms and the cheapest service I could find is $900, $1800 at a fiat professional mechanic. Australian $
Now I know it’s a case of tomato/ tomatoes but I can’t stand bike racks on campervan or a motor home but it still doesn’t detract from the beautiful lines of his new mobile home
I get it. We removed it when we got the van home. We don’t use bikes so no need.
Hill decent try porlock hill 😅
I have looked it up 😮😬
No tents allowed, does this mean that tent trailer is allowed? I really like this channel as well ❤.
I have no idea. 🤷♂️
I hope one day you'll do a campingtrip with the Deux Chevaux and a tent trailer! 😊
You never know…
I really like Ross, my sister lives about 20mins away from Ross, lovely town to visit.
We liked it too.
Hey Paul! We went to Seaton, Lyme Regis, Exmouth, Axemouth and Sidmouth in our motorhome 3 weeks ago and stayed for 2 weeks. We actually tried wild camping for the first time, perfectly legit as East Devon council have designated a few places to stay overnight using the Ringo app and cost £12 for 24 hours including sleeping in your vehicle! We mainly stayed at Axemouth overlooking the Axe and Tram, only because it was the prettiest, driest and friendliest site we've ever been to. £30 per night all year. Still got that Bros cassette for you! Ha ha
Excellent. And great info for viewers that read the comments section. We love it down there. Beautiful area. Oh yes… the Bros cassette. 😮👍
I have an air compressor to pump up tyres on my Ducato campervan, and instructions say don’t use the cigar lighter socket if it is under 15v, and to connect to these battery terminals instead. I hope the + and the - are close enough together to clip my extension- and I wonder if the + needs connecting first, then the - clip?
You should be able to use any earth point.
I was always under the impression you could run anything whilst on hookup similar to electric in your house. I haven't been anywhere with hook up yet so wasn't aware of the limitations
The National Grid is likely putting 100 amps into your home. Maximum at a campsite is typically 16 amps. Some are 10 amps or less.
@LiveforTravel I had a reply back from a campsite I'm going to and they say their supply is 12 volts which I think they mean amps
@@samanthalemmon7576 it certainly won’t be 12v. A 12 amp supply will give you a maximum of 2760 watts.
I stayed on that site a few years ago but didn’t like it, I can’t really explain why but didn’t take to it and won’t return
That’s what I like about the world. We’re all different.
Hi Paul, new follower here. Great content, really helpful, quick question, I can't seem to find the video you did on the future of motorhomes and electric vehicles. Did it ever get uploaded, or am I being thick?
Thanks. You’re not being thick. That’s my job 😁 on rare occasions where a video doesn’t attract sufficient attention, comments etc, I decide to remove them. We try our best to make informative, and hopefully sometimes entertaining, videos and choose subjects that we feel would be useful. However, I am also a bit ‘fussy’ or maybe it’s just OCD with the channel as a whole and as a result the odd one or two are removed. Really appreciate your support.
@@LiveforTravel ahaa! Phew, was driving me slightly bonkers looking for it. Thanks for the reply. Really enjoying the channel, always helpful and definately entertaining. Looking forward to more. Thanks again.
Lovely!! A beautiful family you have there, Paul! We will be travelling to the UK for a month from Kolkata, India. Will be visiting Keswick and nearabout in late May. Friar's Crag and Keswick will be good for my unfit relatives in the UK and my mother-in-law. This video was very helpful for the parking tip. The 58-year-old me, meanwhile, is planning a Catbells trail. 😀
Thanks. Yes it is lovely although to be honest it’s all lovely ‘up there.’ Hope you have a great time. The Catbells trail, that I hadn’t heard of until now, sounds fantastic.
Love the Bird bag. ❤❤
Really great video. Thanks from someone looking to purchase a Motorhome/campervan. Thanks for the chapters. 👍
No problem. Glad you found it useful. Particularly with chapters. 😁
